Description

The University of Chicago's Department of Pediatrics, Section of Hematology/Oncology, is searching for a full-time associate or full professor. The appointee will have an extraordinary opportunity to lead and shape the future of one of the largest pediatric hematology/oncology programs in the Midwest. Also, the appointee will assume the key leadership role in the development of a new joint hematology/oncology service line among the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital, Advocate Children’s Hospital and North Shore University Health System. In this role, the Chief will unify the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Program across the region.

The Chief will be responsible for the research, education and clinical service missions of the hematology/oncology program. The program consists of 23 physicians, physician scientists and scientists (MD, MD/PhD, and PhD), along with 12 Advanced Practice Providers, and a full complement of clinical and research staff.

The Chief will have a vision to lead a program at the forefront of the next scientific era in pediatric hematology/oncology research and therapy. They will achieve mutually agreed goals by leveraging our commitment to outstanding patient care, training the next generation of physicians and physician scientists, and through partnership with members of the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Duchossois Family Institute, the Pritzker School of Engineering, the Institute for Translational Medicine, and our core programs that include a Cellular Therapeutics GMP Facility.

The ideal candidate is a nationally recognized leader and program builder with a strong background in all aspects of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. They will have a personal research program and a strong track record of scholarly achievement that complements our programs in the fundamental biology of hematopoiesis and oncogenesis, translational science and the development of novel therapeutics, clinical trials and outcomes, and cancer survivorship.  Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students, and scholarly activity.[MF1]  Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, 3) be board certified in pediatrics, and in pediatric Hematology/Oncology, and 4) have completed an approved pediatric Hematology/Oncology fellowship (or equivalent training).
