Overview

The Princeton Psychology Department invites applications for a Research Specialist to begin in Summer 2020. We are looking for a talented and driven candidate to help develop and deploy psychological studies on an integrated web and mobile platform built for large-scale behavioral science research: The Person Project.

The ideal candidate will have experience in both psychology and web development, and a strong interest in combining both in an effort to illuminate human behavior.

This is a one year position with the possibility of renewal based on funding and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Research Design: Leverage your coding skills to create fun experiments for our users. Harness your passion for designing and deploying interesting and engaging web-based psychological and behavioral studies that reward participants with informative feedback about their performance on study tasks.
  • Research and Data Communication: Turn research tasks, and the data they generate, into informative and actionable insights for our users using accessible interpretations and striking visualizations. Be savvy at writing engaging and enticing descriptions of the research activities our users participate in to capture their interest and make them want to continue learning about themselves with the Person Project.
  • Social Media Marketing: Extend the reach of the Person Project platform by creating and disseminating marketing materials across various social media platforms to build our user base. Using various social media accounts, spread the word about the exciting opportunities the Person Project offers for self-learning.
  • Technical Translation: Be the point-person for communicating project development needs to a team of developers who actively bring our vision of the Person Project web- and mobile-application to life.

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Aid the principal investigators in seeking external funding for the Person Project
  • Create, maintain, and disseminate training materials to onboard research assistants
  • Collaborate with graduate students and faculty in developing and deploying studies

The successful candidate will work with Drs. Diana Tamir, Nicole Shelton, and Stacey Sinclair.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, computer science, statistics, or related fields
  • Strong research experience in an academic lab or industry setting
  • Demonstrated initiative leading a team
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Strength in ability to balance the needs of various stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and D3 for creating visually striking web applications.

Applicants must apply online and are required to submit all of the following materials:

  1. Resume
  2. Cover letter indicating relevant experience and research interests (text box provided during application process), and
  3. Names and contact information for two professional references (upload to the Other Documents section).
