Applications are invited for appointment as Scientific Officer in the Department of Microbiology (Ref.: 502277), to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
The selected candidate will work in a company incorporated by The University of Hong Kong that was established to administer and support the University’s innovation endeavors.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in biology, medical sciences or a related field, with at least 10 years' research and clinical diagnostic laboratory experience preferably in microbiology, immunology or biology. Applicants should have research experience in virology, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, working with animal models, and good work experience in BSL-3 laboratory. Applicants should have a Certificate of Registration (Part 1) and a valid Practising Certificate issued by the Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLT) Board. Experience in writing grant proposals and supervising research postgraduate students and post-doctoral fellows would be an advantage. Applicants should be highly motivated, and highly independent with innovative ideas to carry out studies in the areas of mechanistic study of viral pathogenesis, strategic development of vaccination, and novel treatment for infectious diseases. They should also possess good communication skills in English. Working off-campus may be required.
