About the opportunity 

Reporting to the Head of School, Professor Stefan Williams, the Associate Lecturer/Lecturer (Education-Focused) position is a specialised category of academic engagement reserved for talented educators with a passion for and demonstrated excellence in pedagogical practice and design. We are seeking to appoint an Associate Lecturer/Lecturer (Education-focused) who will contribute to the teaching and learning efforts in Aeronautical Engineering, while working with the support and guidance of more senior academic staff to develop their education proficiency. The role will focus predominantly on teaching (60%), with time also available to engage in research (20%) and provide service to the School (20%).

Our Aerospace Engineering program has research and teaching strengths in the areas of aerodynamics, avionics, smart structures, space engineering, flight dynamics, navigation and control, propulsion, rapid prototyping and unmanned aerial vehicles. We have close connections with numerous domestic and international Aerospace engineering firms and maintain a strong focus on fundamental research contributions aligned with industry engagement and impact.

Our Aeronautical Engineering degree is one of the leading degrees of its kind offered in Australia and attracts some of the top students in NSW, from around Australia and from overseas. As a member of the AMME staff, you will be expected to support the broad direction for the Aeronautical Engineering degree and deliver courses at the Undergraduate and Masters levels. Specific areas of teaching will be determined in consultation with the Head of School and may comprise 1st and 2nd year introductory engineering units of study as well as specialist higher-level electives associated with your areas of research and teaching expertise. Teaching experience in Aerospace Engineering is a requirement for this position.

About you

  • has a PhD or near completion,in Aerospace engineering
  • has a demonstrated understanding of subject-matter within the Aerospace Engineering discipline
  • is experienced in conducting original research and/or engaging in scholarly activity
  • is experienced in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching in a variety of settings
  • is developing knowledge and understanding of contemporary pedagogical practice and design

In addition, if applying for the Lecturer(Education-Focused), Level B position, we are seeking a candidate who:

  • is developing their research profile in Aerospace Engineering as evidenced by original, high-quality and independent research in the discipline or area of expertise
  • is committed to and is passionate for engaging in scholarly activities to inform innovative pedagogical practice
  • is experienced in teaching and learning in a tertiary environment, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings
  • has demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
  • has a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders
  • can supervise or mentor others and/or coordinate team activities
  • can demonstrate capacity to stimulate, actively engage and educate an audience using a range of media
