LTH forms the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University, with approximately 9 000 students. The research carried out at LTH is of a high international standard and we are continuously developing our teaching methods and adapting our courses to current needs.

Biotechnology is an area of central significance for transition to a sustainable society. In the research discipline, microorganisms or their components are developed and utilized using environmentally sustainable methods to achieve technical products and services. The specific application areas are industrial biotechnology, environmental biotechnology and biotechnology for health. Research involves both fundamental and applied studies within the specific areas. The Division of Biotechnology is looking for a researcher at the beginning of his/her research career.

Work duties

  • Be responsible for research tasks in projects at Division of Biotechnology dealing with development of biocatalysts for designing effective antimicrobial strategies
  • Write scientific articles based on his/her research
  • Apply for research funding
  • Participate in supervision of Master students and teaching in undergraduate courses at the division

Qualification requirements Applicants must have:

  • PhD degree in Biotechnology or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position
  • Knowledge in medicinal- and pharmaceutical microbiology, pharmacology, antibiotic resistance, bacteriophages and their enzymes, protein structure-function
  • Theoretical knowledge and practical experience in microbiology, microbial cultivations, bioinformatics, gene cloning and expression in different microbial hosts, mutagenesis, protein purification, antimicrobial tests, enzyme immobilization
  • Very good knowledge of English in speech and writing
  • Consideration will also be given to good cooperation ability, drive and independence, and how the applicant through his/her experience and competence is judged to have the ability needed for the research project

Assessment criteria and other qualifications

  • Education in pharmacology and medicinal microbiology is an advantage
  • Knowledge and experience in creating gene mutations by different techniques
  • Practical knowledge of bacteriophage isolation and cultivation
  • Experience of publishing in high impact journals, critical review of literature
  • Good ability for written and oral communication

Terms of employment Fixed-term employment, 50 %, 2020-11-01 – 2021-12-31.
