The Department of Neurology at Stanford University is seeking an Assistant Clinical Research Assistant (ACRC) to join the Stanford Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) team. The ACRC will be part of the Neuropathology and Biospecimens Core that analyzes tissue and other biological samples from study patients in the Stanford ADRC. Responsibilities include receiving whole blood samples and cerebrospinal fluid samples from ADRC study patients and keeping an inventory of these samples, processing and maintain the database, and other duties as assigned. 

Specimens provided by the Clinical Core are processed and analyzed within the Neuropathology and Biospecimens Core.  The ACRC will be expected to work closely with other members of the research team and the supervisor to adhere to the clinical protocols, follow policies and procedures, make modifications as appropriate, and maintain good record keeping. Additional responsibilities include ordering supplies, maintaining lab records, and adhering to safety regulations.

Duties include: 

  • Schedule and/or call subjects for appointments; contact participants with reminders or other requirements. 
  • Prepare, distribute, and process questionnaires. 
  • Perform clerical duties in the preparation of regulatory documents. Maintain all forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs. File all appropriate correspondence. 
  • Prepare, process, and ship specimens/samples accurately under well-defined requirements.
  • Order and maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Process study compensation payments and thank you letters to subjects upon completion of trial activities. Assist with post-study activities, as needed.

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, or related scientific field is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with repetitive work with blood and other fluids is required.
  • Experience Redcap database is desired.
  • Previous laboratory research experience in academia or industry desired.
  • Meticulous record keeping and organizational skills.
  • Careful attention to detail in all laboratory techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and coordinate experiments with co-workers is essential.


Two-year college degree and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.


General knowledge of medical terminology.


Working toward certification(s) to perform basic patient measurements and tests, such as phlebotomy and EKG.


  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat and use fine light/fine grasping. 
  • Occasionally sit, reach above shoulders, perform desk based computer tasks, use a telephone and write by hand, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, grasp forcefully, sort and file paperwork or parts, rarely lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh 40 pounds or more.
