Technische Universität Darmstadt invites applications for a Professorship in Automotive Systems (W3) (Code No. 454) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering beginning in Winter Semester 2021/22.

The applicant will represent the chair of “Automotive Systems” in research and education. We are looking for a nationally and internationally highly qualified person combining an excellent knowledge base and extensive experience in the field of automotive engineering, with specific consideration of automated/autonomous systems. The applicant must have demonstrated significant independent research achievements and innovative methods implemented in practice.

The applicant will be responsible for teaching the basics of vehicle technology in the Bachelor Degree program of the Department of

Mechanical Engineering. In addition, fundamentals of information and communication technology should be conveyed. In the Master Degree program, aspects of vehicle dynamics and vehicle concepts, as well as selected topics from research programs should be offered. In the field of research, a focus on innovative future oriented topics is expected, including highly automated and autonomous driving, linked to related aspects like sensor/actuator systems, system integration, application of intelligent networked systems, as well as proof and validation of safety critical functions.

The candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to national and international collaborative research and to initiate and participate in interdisciplinary projects with other departments and research groups.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in engineering or natural sciences and have suitable pedagogical qualifications, an excellent knowledge of German and English, as well as the willingness to participate in academic self-administration.

The position is tenured with a remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications, following the German “W-Besoldung” and subject to negotiations between the applicant and the university directorate. The regulations for employment are specified under §§ 61 and 62 HHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
