Job Description Summary

The web developer works to create and update library web applications, focusing primarily on the main library Drupal website. This position requires strong front-end, back-end development and QA automation skills, including the ability to fix accessibility issues, setup for new Drupal sites including building theme and custom modules.

Job Description

The web developer will work closely with application developers, designers, the Libraries’ Office of Strategic Communication, and other stakeholders across the libraries.  The projects include new and existing web applications that serve thousands of users per day with varying levels of research experience and a wide variety of information and research needs. Communications and interpersonal skills are essential, since the web developer works closely with departmental staff and external vendors to continuously improve the Libraries' web presence, as well as define and document new projects.

The web developer must possess strong critical thinking and technical problem-solving skills, along with a demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging technologies that will help the library pursue continuous improvement in user interfaces and UX. They will have facility with the platforms, methods, and best practices that power our primary sites: Drupal, Javascript, and CSS.

DUTIES:

The web developer is responsible for the full-stack web application design, development, testing, maintenance and documentation to work on the following:

  • Build Drupal modules and themes
  • Provide training and technical assistance to facilitate the creation of accessible web content
  • Continuous improvement of web properties
  • Collaborate on project documentation and best practices

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's Degree is preferred and 2 years to 3 years of related experience is required.
  • Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
  • Proficient understanding of client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks, including jQuery
  • Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
  • Ability to read and ensure feasibility of UI/ UX/ design documents such as screen layouts, user interface elements, and prototypes;
  • Knowledge of web standards and ability to identify and remedy web accessibility issues;
