Job Description Summary

CNB Application Developer Senior

The Brain Behavior Lab (BBL) at Penn Medicine and the Lifespan Brain Institute (LiBI) at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Penn Medicine are seeking a full-time research-oriented highly experienced application developer to join their team. The Penn Computerized Neurocognitive Battery (CNB) is a series of computerized tests that have been applied in neuroimaging fMRI studies. The tests measure accuracy and speed of performance in major domains of cognition and have been used in the Army, Marines, NASA, and large-scale genetic studies on all continents, including Antarctica.

The CNB Application Developer Senior will work with our scientific team to design, develop, maintain and enhance CNB web applications supporting a variety of research projects. She/he will also assist in the development and deployment of a flash-free CNB application that can be launched by the end of this year. They will work on designing, implementing and supporting new and existing fMRI tasks for neuroimaging studies. This includes scoring the data and producing summary scores by closely working with the testing and scientific team.

CNB Application Developer Senior 

The Senior Application Developer operates with a high degree of independence and professionalism in managing job responsibilities, work priorities, methodologies, and routines. The position requires a readiness to research IT developments and tools, to apply the findings of research to design and programming, and in general, to bring best practices and the latest concepts in the field to application development. The senior developer participates in IT planning as well as the execution of planning priorities.

The Senior Application Developer will work with our scientific team to design, develop, maintain and enhance CNB web applications supporting a variety of research projects. She/he will also assist and at times lead the development and deployment of a flash-free CNB application using current technologies like React, JavaScript etc. to reproduce the front-end while ensuring a seamless integration with the backend database and scoring code. She/he will also work on designing, implementing and supporting new and existing fMRI tasks for neuroimaging studies using presentation or e-prime. This includes scoring the data and producing summary scores by closely working with the testing and scientific team. We provide a challenging and dynamic environment for our developers where we encourage participation in training seminars and other self-development activities that help maintain continuing awareness of relevant emerging technologies for possible application in research environments. Position contingent on continued grant funding. 

 

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree and at least 3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Position Preferences:

  • bachelor’s in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years professional experience with front end development with JavaScript or TypeScript, CSS/Sass, HTML5, and responsive web design. Candidates for this position must have proven experience in providing technology solutions that are developed and deployed in a working environment.
  • 5+ years professional experience building web applications with an understanding of APIs, data serialization and JSON/XML.
  • Experience with Flash
  • Working knowledge of databases and SQL programming.
  • Experience with front-end frameworks like React or Angular.  
  • Working knowledge of Perl or another scripting language.
  • Understanding of Git or another version control system.
