Description
The University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet), Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine (CSAM) and Department of Clinical Studies-New Bolton Center (CS-NBC) invite applications for a clinical faculty position in Small and Large Animal Anesthesia in the Academic Clinician (AC) track.

The successful candidate will be responsible for didactic, laboratory and clinical teaching of veterinary medical students and interns, participation in patient care, supervision of residents and continuing education for veterinarians and related stakeholders. Responsibilities within the hospital typically include elective and emergency daytime practice, teaching rounds, and back up coverage of residents, interns, and nurse anesthetists for emergency after-hours duty. Forty-two (42) weeks will be devoted to clinical service (of which 60% will be spent in Small Animal Anesthesia at CSAM and 40% in Large Animal Anesthesia at CS-NBC), with the remaining portion dedicated to scholarly activities such as teaching, administrative, and other responsibilities.

As a citizen of CSAM and CS-NBC, the successful candidate is expected to participate in some administrative or committee work as well as serve as a resource to programs such as Development, Communications, Customer Service and Community Outreach in promoting the capabilities and accomplishments of Penn Vet. The successful candidate should demonstrate a collaborative style that fosters and supports teamwork and innovation.

The Anesthesia program at Penn Vet consists of 4 full-time and 1 part-time Board Certified Anesthesiologists (4 ACVAA and 1 ECVAA) and 5 anesthesia residents. The technical staff includes 16 full time veterinary nurse anesthetists at CSAM and 3 at CS-NBC.

The Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital is a specialty-centered and well-equipped academic teaching facility. Its large and diverse faculty and staff, assembled from all over the world, attract one of the largest small animal caseloads in the country. The Veterinary and Medical Schools are in close proximity (within walking distance) providing rich intellectual exchange. The New Bolton Center is located in a rural setting in scenic Pennsylvania Hunt Country, approximately 35 miles southwest of the main University Campus in Philadelphia. It provides an internationally renowned standard of care. Located on a campus of some 700 acres, it has one of the largest caseloads of any academic large animal hospital worldwide with approximately 1,400 animals being anesthetized each year for a wide variety of procedures.

Qualifications
Candidates must have a DVM/VMD or equivalent degree, completed a residency in anesthesia and be either board-eligible or board-certified in the American College of Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA). Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
