POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWUrban Studies and Planning-Senseable City Lab, to join the Good Vibrations team for the analysis of complex infrastructure systems, such as bridges and roadways, using big data sets collected by mobile sensor networks. The available mobility data is very broad and includes time series data from accelerometers and gyroscopes, heterogeneous smartphone sensor data, vehicle trip data, social media, images, public transport records, infrastructure reports, and taxi movements among others. Responsibilities include performing fundamental and applied research on extracting infrastructure information from mobility datasets, analyzing complex infrastructure systems at urban and regional scales using big data sets collected by sensors in moving vehicles, and actively contributing to the design and implementation of mathematical and statistical methods.

Such methods must be robust with respect to variations in data context, data quality, sensor noise, mobility patterns, environmental factors, etc. Other duties include keeping current in relevant state-of-the-art methods in engineering, computer science, mathematics, signal processing, and machine learning; participating in research projects with industrial partners; presenting research results at top international workshops and conferences, exhibits, and internal project meetings; and co-authoring articles for publication in leading peer-reviewed journals and top conferences.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, or  related field; experience in signal processing, spectral analysis, time-series analysis, handling large-scale data sets and with the modeling and analysis of complex systems; strong publication record; and demonstrated proficiency in either MATLAB or Python (with practical skills in both expected). Experience in C++, Java, Hadoop, MapReduce, SQL, and other relevant programs a plus. Job #16978
