The Social Networks Lab at the Psychology Department is conducting a project on language evolution. It is looking to appoint a couple of research assistants to help with all aspects of the project from stimuli preparation and up to data collection. The experiments will be conducted online.
The Social Networks Lab studies language from a social networks perspective. This project is part of a larger project that examines whether languages have the grammar, vocabulary, and sounds that they have because of the way that the community that speaks them is structured. For example, it studies whether communities that are larger or more diverse are more likely to develop certain languages than others. The lab studies these questions mostly by having groups play communication games. Research assistants will be involved with preparing the stimuli for the experiments, setting up the experiments, recruiting participants, running the studies, and coding the data.
The project is led by Dr Shiri Lev-Ari, and you can email her directly at shiri.lev-ari@rhul.ac.uk for more details.
The post is for the entire year and will commence in September 2020.
