Job Details

SMRT-NTU Smart Urban Rail Corporate Laboratory invites applicants for the position of project officer.

Job Description:

Mechanical vibrations have negative impact on railway environments. They generate noise and can lead to failure of various components. Vibrations are also a valuable source of information for predicting aging or dysfunction of components.

The research staff will be responsible for developing finite element computer models for different track forms on mass rapid transit (MRT) system for vibration analysis. The job scope will include deriving, both analytically and experimentally, the vibration characteristics of existing and new track forms, in terms of natural frequencies, modes of vibration, frequency response and modal properties. Track forms include running rails, power rails and foundation. The job scope will also include running simulation studies to validate results with actual site measurements, and to predict the dynamic behaviour of the trackform. He will validate the FEA model with measurements performed both in a laboratory environment and on site.

Apart from working on technical aspects of research projects, the candidate will also take charge of general matters for the project, including data management and project documentation, writing project updates, and doing product demonstrations and presentations.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors in engineering, preferably in mechanical engineering, civil or structural engineering;
  • Good knowledge in finite element modelling, vibration analysis and stress analysis;
  • Fluency in English is mandatory
  • At least 1 year of work experience
