Biomechanics Modelling:

We are looking to appoint a post-doctoral researcher to model the neural control of biomechanical systems across differing time scales and size. Experience with dynamic modelling, matlab, and biomechanics is desired. Ability to do dynamical systems analysis on second order differential equations will be a great plus. There are a lot of skills here, we are willing to teach candidates who have some but not all the relevant skills.

This project is part of a multi-university Neuronex programme to determine the fundamental mechanical and neural constraints on the mechanical control of movement. We are assembling a quantitative framework for muscle control of motion from scale and size as small and fast as trap jaw ant mandibles (1mm movements, over 100 microseconds) to the posture control of whale bodies during swimming (10 m movements, over 100's of seconds). This position will analyze the fundamental mechanics of these movements to determine the most important factors in how animal movement is controlled. We are focusing on size and time-scale of these animal movements with the goal of developing a wholistic theory of movement.

We are collaborating with 8 universities in 4 countries, so researchers will be part of a wide, international team of researchers tackling a very difficult, but exciting problem.
