The University of Chicago's Department of Pediatrics, Section of Critical Care, is searching for a full-time associate or full professor. The successful applicant will lead the Section of Critical Care Medicine. The ideal candidate is an academic leader and a program builder with strong background in all aspects of Pediatric Critical Care who will support the clinical, research, and education efforts of the Section. Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students, and scholarly activity. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications.

The Section of Pediatric Critical Care has 13 full-time faculty members, a fully accredited fellowship program, and a 30 bed PICU, which admits approximately 1600 patients/year. The Section also runs the Pediatric Sedation Service with ~1500 patients per year including both inpatient and ambulatory procedures, and runs a Palliative Care Service. Faculty members are actively involved in research and scholarship across a wide range of clinical research, quality improvement, medical education and translational projects.

Assessment of applicants may consider (a) a commitment to clinical care, (b) success in promoting scholarship and funding, (c) evidence of leadership, administrative, and/or organizational skills in academic critical care medicine, and (d) ability to mentor young faculty, lead a diverse group, and work with hospital and academic department partners using a collaborative approach. Individuals with a national reputation in scholarship are strongly encouraged to apply. Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, 3) be BC/BE in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine , and 4) have cared for complex and critically ill infants, children and adolescents during the past five years.
