Lead the design, development and operation of state of the art instrumentation and control systems in support of a wide range of current and future projects at PPPL.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize System Level to Circuit Level Requirements & Features 20%
  • Design, fabricate & operate analog, digital and power delivery systems 20%
  • Develop FPGA and micro-controller firmware 15%
  • Understand and implement proper Grounding, Isolation and Noise Reduction and Rejection schemes 10%
  • Mentor Students, Technicians and Junior Engineers performing work in research and development of experiments, control, data acquisition and monitoring systems 10%
  • Daily operation and maintenance of Control and Monitoring System: 15%
  • Develop Diagrams, Drawings and Documentation for systems developed: 10%.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with National Instruments LabView software environment
  • Experience with electronic design environments (Autodesk Eagle preferred)
  • Experience with Capacitor Bank power delivery
  • Experience with noise reduction schemes in electronics design
  • Experience working with Digital I/O
  • Experience working with Analog Data acquisition and signal conditioning techniques
  • Experience generating and reading State Machine, Logic Flow and Interconnection Diagrams, Requirements Documents, Failure Mode Engineering Analysis

Desirable:

  • Experience with FPGA development process
  • Experience working with Front Panel Data Port (FPDP) hardware
  • Experience working for federal entities like the Department of Energy (DOE)
  • Exposure to Version control Software (SVN, GIT)
  • Mastery of standard off the shelf test equipment: (DVM, Oscilloscope, Logic analyzer)
  • Experience with the calibration of data acquisition equipment in varying environments
  • Experience with large software development projects
  • Ability to work with a diverse set of scientists, engineers and technical staff with varying skill levels and backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills and communication skills
  • Strong Team-Player with the ability to motivate and educate others on the team
