Job Summary

Professor Magdalena Zernicka-Goetz at California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is looking for a senior research scientist.

Recently our lab developed unique methods for studying mouse and human embryos and for building embryo-like structures from stem cells (e.g. Bedzhov and Zernicka-Goetz, Cell 2014; Harrison et al Science 2017; Shahbazi et al Nature 2017; Sozen et al, Nature Cell Bio, 2018; Kyprianou et al, Nature 2020). Job Duties

  • Investigate mechanisms of self-organization during early mammalian development using mammalian embryos and stem cells as models
  • Expert knowledge in florescent live embryo/cell microscopy (e.g., light sheet, 2-photon) and advanced image analysis required. Expertise in mammalian embryology and stem cells desired
  • Identifies research problems and formulates theoretical/experimental approaches to study/analyze scientific questions
  • Authors and/or co-authors results and presents findings in journals, scientific organizations, or conferences with Principal Investigator
  • Provides guidance and direction to graduate students, staff, and other researchers regarding direction of projects and interpretation of research results
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering or related field
  • 7-10 years of relevant scientific research experience
  • Advanced expertise in early mammalian/stem cells development
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
