Job Description Summary

The Associate Director, Data Science & Research position at Wharton Customer Analytics will support the Research & Education Director in the design, scope, and execution of experiential learning and research projects.

Job Description

Duties:

The Associate Director, Data Science & Research will interface with prospective and current corporate partners to learn their business model and understand the business and technical challenges they face as an organization and will help scope and scale customized research projects with actionable insights and implementable solutions.  This role will gain further knowledge and insight into their data practices, including internal systems and data storage, and will recommend what data and tools are needed, and will work closely with corporate partners to transfer, store, clean and document data for student research projects. The Associate Director, Data Science & Research will also serve as a liaison to students and researchers as they work on projects, assisting them with technical support, including using and understanding the data. 

Qualifications: 

  • Preference for Master’s Degree or other relevant coursework/certificate and 3 – 4 years of experience using databases and data analysis tools or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience with SQL, and coding in Python or R, and Data Visualization required.  Familiarity with database design and management (e.g. MySQL) and managing cloud-based data infrastructures with AWS or Microsoft Azure a plus.  Proficiency with data analysis and basic statistical modeling also a plus.  
  • Experience designing, scoping, and scaling data based and data analytics projects with companies.  Ability to identify relevant and interesting business questions, supporting datasets, and an understanding of the implementation of solutions.
  • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills with the ability to translate between technical processes and actionable business insights.  Experience or interest in working with students in the role of mentor or technical project manager a plus.  Ability to quickly learn and apply new processes and technologies required.  Detail oriented and experience leading projects from end to end.
  • This position will spend approximately 70% of their time working with Wharton Customer Analytics and 30% of their time working with Wharton AI for Business.
