The Faculty of Education

HKU has been involved in teacher education since 1917, and the Faculty of Education was established in 1984.  The Faculty began to offer degree programmes in Speech Pathology and Audiology in 1988 and 1996 respectively.  The Faculty of Education is forward-looking and world leading, ranking third globally in Education (THE 2020).  It has assumed an important role in educational research and professional training and has contributed significantly to education policy and development in Hong Kong.  It is a major teacher-education institution and has strong expertise in policy analysis and curriculum development.  It was the first institution in Hong Kong to train speech therapists and audiologists for the local community. The Position

Applications are invited for appointments as Tenure-Track Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Speech Pathology (2 positions) in the Faculty of Education (Ref.: 501970), to commence on January 1, 2021 and August 1, 2021 respectively, or as soon as possible thereafter.  Appointments as Associate Professor/Assistant Professor will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.  Candidates with extensive experience and demonstrated outstanding academic achievement at the Professor/Associate Professor levels may be considered for appointment on direct tenure terms subject to approval.

Applicants should possess (i) a Ph.D. degree in Speech Pathology or a related discipline; (ii) clinical speech pathology experience with children and/or adults; (iii) tertiary teaching experience; (iv) a proven track record in, or strong potential for, research, scholarly publications and competitive external funding; and (v) eligibility for full membership of the Hong Kong Institute of Speech Therapists, which requires a clinical qualification in speech pathology.  Expertise in Implementation Science or Interprofessional Practice would be an advantage.

The appointees will be expected to teach courses offered in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supervise research postgraduate students, contribute actively to research and knowledge exchange, and assume service/administrative responsibilities as appropriate.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
