Description

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago seeks qualified lecturers for the 2020/21 school year to teach computer systems courses (networks, operating systems, computer architecture, etc.) in the Masters Program in Computer Science (http://csmasters.uchicago.edu/).

As part of its curriculum, the MPCS requires students to take several core courses, with the goal of building a solid foundation in core computer science concepts before students move on to the more industry-oriented elective courses in the program. Applicants to this position will be considered specifically for the core systems courses. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, Computer Architecture and Operating Systems.

Most systems courses in the MPCS curriculum have existing syllabuses and course materials that new instructors will be able to use and build upon. Some lecturers will co-teach existing classes with current MPCS lecturers.

Courses are held for ten weeks during each academic quarter, with the eleventh week for a final project or exam. Depending on the status of the COVID-19 crisis, lecturers may be hired to teach classes online. Courses can meet in the daytime (meeting 2-3 times a week for a total of three hours) or in the evening (meeting once per week for three hours). The exact day(s)/time(s) are determined in consultation with the lecturer.

This position is part-time and is not benefits eligible. Applicants must currently be authorized to work permanently in the U.S.
