About the role:

Located at St Vincent's Hospital in the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, the position available is for a part time Research Dietitian to support a clinical research project in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). The position involves working as part of a clinical research team who are introducing dietary interventions for patients with IBD. The appointed research dietitian will have direct contact with patients to put in place a dietary intervention programme. They will also be involved in all aspects of the study, including diet analysis, data entry and analysis, and write-up of manuscripts for publication.

You will join a dynamic, friendly and capable, but small, research team of a senior dietitian, doctors, nurses, and clinical scientists. The team conducts multiple clinical studies that have a dietary component. Our studies have direct clinical relevance.

The incumbent will report to the Study Principal Investigators, Dr Gina Trakman (dietitian) and Professor Michael Kamm (gastroenterologist), and work closely with senior staff in St Vincent’s Hospital Department of Gastroenterology and the University Of Melbourne Department Of Medicine.

About you:

Minimum Qualifications Required: Honours or Master’s degree in dietetics with relevant experience

Skills and Experience required to fulfil the position:

  • Proven track record with counselling clients one-on-one in an 
outpatient setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge in and/or knowledge of experimental research design
  • Analytical and conceptual skills to analyse and interpret scientific data
  • Demonstrated skill with FoodWorks™ dietary analysis packages and dietary intake assessment using surveys and food frequency questionnaires
  • Demonstrated interest in human diseases and researching their therapy
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including hospital departments and clinical and scientific collaborators involved in studies
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a team member
  • Demonstrated initiative, judgement and understanding of the importance of following procedures and protocols
  • Organisational skills and a demonstrated ability to manage competing deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present information appropriately to a variety of audiences.
