The Student Services unit is responsible for providing a strategic and coordinated function across Monash College to ensure the highest quality of student engagement, student support and experience activities.

About the role:

As Student Safety Manager, you are the central point of inquiry, advice, investigation, risk assessment, management and coordination of inappropriate, concerning or threatening behaviour which impacts our students. 

You’ll lead the response to critical incidents, working closely with the broader Student Services team and our teaching divisions.

  • Develop and deliver education and training programs in collaboration with stakeholders to build capacity in all safety matters.
  • Establish and update protocols around case management of incidents and record all incidents. 
  • Use sound investigative skills to verify facts, assess risks and compile statements, reports and briefs of evidence in support of formal action by the College.
  • Develop strategy around student safety ensuring that all student communications are consistent, culturally appropriate and delivered in a timely manner.

About you:

Previous experience in the safer community space (safer community units, police etc.) with responsibility for managing cases across a wide range of incidents, requiring empathetic but practical support.

The role requires extensive liaison across a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders including the Pathways divisions, the CEO, Monash University’s Safer Community Unit, as well as the police and emergency services. Your ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships will be critical to your success.

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications supported by a demonstrable track record in a similar role. Strong preference for experience with international students.
  • Experience in dealing with the criminal justice system, police and basic legal procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of written reports and presentations, with the ability to communicate effectively to a broad range of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Extensive investigation skills, ability to compile briefs of evidence and make decisions in order to ameliorate the risk of problem behaviours.
  • Proven research and analytical skills including the ability to capture, interpret and report on relevant data, recommending solutions to challenging issues.

In 2021, the College is relocating from multiple locations to a purpose-built, vertical campus in the Docklands. You will play a key role in reframing our student safety and security practices to ensure they work in our new working and learning environment.
