The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) invite applications for the position of Research Fellow for Assistant Professor Aron Meltzner’s research group.

The candidate will conduct a field program in western Luzon Island in the Philippines to survey, slab, and analyze coral microatolls from coastal sites and to identify active tectonic structures.

Job Responsibilities: 

The candidate will lead the research project from beginning to end, including but not limited to:

  • Identify sites and coral microatolls
  • Survey sites with on-site and remote techniques
  • Provide supervision over the cutting of coral microatolls with a chainsaw, processing and x-raying of microatoll slabs and the radiometric dating of fossil corals
  • Analyze the coral microatoll slabs using Adobe® Photoshop®, Adobe® Illustrator®, and Microsoft® Excel®
  • Use remote sensing and field-based geological methods to identify active tectonic structures
  • Use the data obtained to interpret relative sea-level and tectonic histories in western Luzon
  • Write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals based on these findings
  • Expected to help oversee student research at other sites in western Luzon

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in geology or a similar field, and research experience in neotectonics, paleoseismology, geomorphology, geochronology, and computer-based modeling of geological data
  • Minimum of 8 years of field-based research experience, including experience in field surveying and digital topographic analysis
  • At least 3 first-author papers published in peer-reviewed journals, including at least 1 in an English-language journal
  • Proficiency in Adobe® Photoshop®, Adobe® Illustrator®, ArcGIS, and MATLAB®
  • General understanding of Philippines tectonics, elastic dislocation modeling, and glacial isostatic adjustment

Terms and Conditions: 
• The Fellowship will be tenable for a period of 3 years.
