- Fixed term appointment for 12 months on a full time basis, commencing January 2021
- Salary: Level A step 8 : $95,464 plus superannuation

About us
Depending on your area of research, you will work in the School of Molecular Sciences within the Faculty of Science, or the Department of Physics within the Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences at the University Western Australia.
The School of Molecular Sciences based in UWA’s iconic Bayliss Building, supports a vibrant environment for multidisciplinary research, high quality PhD training and industry engagement. The School spans the fields of chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, molecular genetics, nanotechnology and systems biology.
The Department of Physics has an international reputation for excellence in research, as recognised by the hosting of three ARC Centre Nodes for Gravitational Wave Discovery, Quantum Engineered Systems, and Dark Matter Particle Physics. It also leads in research areas including quantum gravity and field, quantum information and computation, spintronics, terahertz and optical technology, and medical physics.
About the opportunity
As a Research Associate you will, under limited direction, prepare and submit (or will have already submitted) an external competitive Postdoctoral Fellowship application with your nominated mentor at UWA.
With your area of research in one or a combination of Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics or Materials Science, you will formulate a coherent and focused research plan and conduct high quality research. You will also present your work at conferences, communicate with collaborators, and supervise Honours and PhD students.
To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:
- A PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, physics, and material sciences
- Proven ability in independently formulating a competitive fellowship application
- Proven ability in pursuing and conducting high quality research
- Proven experience in independently writing high-quality and high-impact manuscripts and presenting results in oral presentations

This evidence should be in the form of either a full fellowship proposal that has been submitted externally, or a three-page summary of a proposal that is in development with a UWA mentor.
