Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 within UCD School of Computer Science

What is the role of migration and migrants in the dynamics of cultural development as regards gender, ethnicity and demography? To answer this question, the EU-funded VICTEUR project will analyse large-scale text corpora from the 19th century, as provided by the British Library. This will allow us to study intra-European migration in the Victorian period through the 'macroscope' of text mining and the 'microscope' of literary scholarship.

Applications are sought for the role of Post-doctoral Research Fellow (Level 2) to take a significant lead in the computational aspects of the VICTEUR project. This work will involve the development of novel text mining and natural language processing (NLP) methods for working with diverse historical texts. The successful candidate should have a PhD in Computer Science or a related disciplines, with previous postdoctoral research experience in NLP or general machine learning. Ideally the candidate will also have past experience of working with researchers from other disciplines.

This is an advanced research focused role, building on your prior experience as a post-doctoral fellow, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to develop new or advanced research skills and competences, on the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications and scholarly dissemination, the development of funding proposals, and the supervision and mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
