INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE PROGRAM (IHP) OFFICEREnvironment, Health and Safety (EHS) Office, to function as an integral member of a multidisciplinary EHS office, providing industrial hygiene expertise and supporting MIT’s academic and business objectives, with due consideration of federal and state occupational and environmental regulations and best practices. Responsibilities include collaborating with faculty/staff/students/other professionals on areas of concern and proposing solutions; participating in the implementation of an Institute-wide EHS management system that integrates compliance, sustainability, and education; assisting with developing and conducting training for EHS staff and the Institute; participating on or leading committees/study groups/teams in a range of EHS programs within and outside area(s) of expertise; conducting hazard assessments; leading or participating in injury or incident investigations; keeping abreast of pertinent EHS regulations and developments; pursuing professional development; and performing other duties as directed. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED bachelor’s degree in EHS-related discipline, engineering, physical science, or biological/chemical science; at least four years’ relevant experience in EHS programs and recognition, evaluation and control of hazardous materials and conditions, and physical agents; industrial hygiene expertise and general knowledge of all aspects of EHS; knowledge of energy programs, including laboratory building energy projects, performing hazards assessments and advising project managers leading teams of engineers, ventilation experts, and other contractors; working knowledge of regulations specific to federal, state, local, and consensus standards; expertise in at least some and general knowledge of most of the following--EPA, DOT, Massachusetts’ DPH and DEP, and OSHA regulations; evidence of leadership; ability to develop and implement well-integrated EHS programs; effective written and oral communication skills; and basic computer and database skills.  

PREFERRED:  master’s degree, knowledge of laboratory ventilation, and CIH certification. Job #18866-9 

Will participate in the EHS emergency response on-call rotational system, providing routine and off-hours support to resolve EHS issues and serve as subject matter expert to MIT’s Emergency Response System.
