We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow in mathematical programming to join an EPSRC advancing impact project. The project will be developed in collaboration with a leading industry partner from Germany and is driven by our vision in sustainable development. We identified the research needs on responsive optimisation modelling tool to bring data advances into real-time decision-making on sustainability. Coupling data value chains and advanced sustainability optimisation has the potential to transform the end-users and sustainability decision-space towards data-informed decision-making.
The recruitment is a 6-month fixed-term position. Applicants must have a strong background in mathematical optimisation and be proficient in programming languages (e.g. Python) that support object oriented programming (OOP). Candidates with a background in Computer Sciences and Process Systems Engineering are particularly encouraged to apply.
You will be working in a friendly and vigorous research environments and collaborating with a cross-disciplinary team. Your research will focus on:
- To develop a spatial-temporal mathematical optimisation model under Python to include the resource and product vectors and technology processes across sectors, logistics and networks.
- To further configure the optimisation model to enable iterative user feedback and responsive optimisation informed by real-time data.
- To collaborate with our industry partner to couple the optimisation model with an existing Java application, leading to an advanced open-source optimisation software, which can inform the decision making on sustainable system design.
