Job description

Join a world-class team of health researchers and clinicians working to improve child health. The Child Health Services and Policy Research Group, led by Ingrid Wolfe in the KCL Department of Women & Children's Health, is offering an opportunity for a talented post-doctoral Mixed Methods Research Associate.

This post is an exciting opportunity to improve health outcomes for vulnerable children with complex needs. The project is funded by the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC). As a member of the ARC team, the Research Associate will work on co-designing and evaluating interventions aimed at improving child health through strengthening the local health and social care system. The work will build on the Children and Young People's Health Partnership (CYPHP), a major applied health research clinical-academic programme in South London.

The Research Associate will have mixed methods research experience and will work within a multidisciplinary team. They will be involved in mapping health needs of the local population to care provision and resources; systematic reviews; co-designing evidence-based screening tools and interventions with families and professionals; and designing and conducting pilot trials to test the interventions. The Department of Women & Children's Health provides a supportive research environment and has a strong commitment to staff development.

This is a full time fixed-term contract until 30 September 2024.

Key responsibilities

Mapping the current needs and existing services for children and young people (CYP) who are vulnerable and/or have complex health or social needs living in South London with the care provision and resources.

Co-designing evidence-based screening tools and interventions with CYP, families and professionals.

Developing and conducting pilot trials to test the impact of health service interventions

Liaising with key stake holders and relevant clinical departments in the region.

Communicating with other members of the wider ARC team and network, as well as statisticians and other researchers in the Child Health Services and Policy Research Group, led by Ingrid Wolfe.

Preparation of reports to the project funder (NIHR ARC) and papers for peer-reviewed journals and presentations.

The post will require the use of mixed (qualitative and quantitative) research methods. Experience of mixed methods health research is therefore essential.

The post-holder will take a team-based approach to decision making, planning and problem solving in order to ensure completion of the project.

Commitments to enhancing Equality & Diversity, and to the principles of the Athena SWAN Charter are essential.

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.
