We are seeking a mature, responsible person who takes pride in the technical quality of their work, has strong practical laboratory experience in structural studies on human and/or animal tissues and excellent organisational skills. This role is part of a dynamic team that is funded by the SPARC (Stimulating Peripheral Activity to Relieve Conditions) initiative of the US National Institutes of Health. The project is led by Professor Janet Keast and joins with collaborators in the Bionics Institute to develop quantitative anatomical and functional maps of the nervous system regulating lower urinary tract function. These maps will facilitate design of new closed-loop neuromodulatory therapies for treating clinical urological and pain conditions.

This role provides the opportunity to demonstrate technical expertise in preparation of tissues for histology, paraffin sectioning, digital scanning of slides, maintaining records of research outcomes and several types of immunohistochemistry protocols. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop skills in large-volume tissue clearing and imaging methods (iDisco, light sheet microscopy), methodology already established in the group. They will also have the opportunity to develop skills in processing and imaging neural tissue with electron microscopy, working with experts at Bio21. Attention to detail and accurate record keeping will be essential for this position. The role will also contribute to the general running and maintenance of the laboratory.
