Position Summary:

The College of Science and Engineering seeks to appoint up to two Lecturers (Scholarly Fellow) and/or Senior Lecturers in Computer Science. Please note that appointment will made at either:

  • Lecturer (Scholarly Fellow) in Computer Science, Academic Level B
  • Senior Lecturer in Computer Science, Academic Level C

Please ensure to indicate in your suitability statement the level for which you wish to be considered.

The appointees will be key members of the College of Science and Engineering academic staff in the area of Computer Science. They will, under general supervision, make a major contribution to the education programs of the College by providing leadership in the planning and delivery of topics. This may include the development of teaching materials, the delivery of lectures/tutorials and other innovative teaching and learning strategies, examinations and the organisation of student placements. In addition to their educational objectives they will be expected to develop and undertake a program of quality research and to be involved in building significant partnerships with external stakeholders.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Completion of a PhD, or equivalent qualification.
  • Significant track record or demonstrated evidence of successful relevant teaching experience at tertiary level, including responsibility for topic coordination, course coordination and curriculum design.
  • Demonstrated experience and successful track record in supervision of honours and higher degree students to successful completion.
  • Demonstrated evidence of a strong research track record (for career stage) in an area that augments and/or complements the existing research strengths of the University in computing sciences, including evidence of sustained high-quality publications and attraction of external competitive grants.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the nexus between teaching and learning, research and scholarship.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated ability to establish effective relationships with staff, students and industry nationally and/or internationally.
  • Demonstrated experience and innovation using e-learning platforms for teaching purposes.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following (Desirable)
  • Networking including IoT, cybersecurity, mobile technologies, intelligent infrastructure.
  • Multimedia including game development, 2D/3D simulation, embodied agents.
  • Human Computer Interface (HCI) including effective computing, brain computer interfaces, natural language processing.

Please note: Pursuant to Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 (SA) this position has been deemed prescribed. It is an inherent requirement of the position that the successful candidate maintains a current Working With Children Check which is satisfactory to the University.

A valid National Police Certificate which is satisfactory to the University will also be required before the successful applicant can commence in this position.
