About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is Australia’s premier University with an outstanding global reputation for academic and research excellence. It employs over 8,100 permanent staff supporting over 73,000 students.

The Faculty of Medicine and Health is the largest faculty in the University, containing seven academic schools. The faculty has set out an ambitious strategic plan to push the boundaries of health and medical research to shape tomorrow by strengthening its research capabilities, influencing health practice and policy, and creating impact through partnership and commercialization.

We are seeking to appoint a qualified researcher with an outstanding track record to Senior Research Fellow or Principal Research Fellow level. Expressions of interest are invited from researchers across a broad range of health and medical disciplines, whose core research capabilities and attributes can be adapted to lead a strategic program in Meniere’s Disease and related disorders. In alignment with the goals of the Faculty’s strategic plan, a special 5-year strategic program to support comprehensive multi-disciplinary research into Meniere’s Disease has been created. The program is supported by $3M of philanthropic funding. The successful candidate will be expected to lead a research program that draws together a team to undertake a multi-year program of research activities aimed at achieving impact in the aetiology, pathogenesis and treatment of Meniere’s disease.

The research program must demonstrate the potential to result in a substantial shift [within a 5-year time frame] in the understanding of the pathogenesis, treatment and management of Meniere’s disease. This program of work could include treatment and management of conditions with applicability to Meniere’s. The program must demonstrate how learnings from other conditions can be applied to help patients with Meniere’s disease, and articulate how the research program aligns with the goals of the Faculty’s strategic plan. It is highly desirable that the successful candidate develop a research program that leverages the strengths of the faculty in cognate areas.
