RESEARCH SOFTWARE ENGINEERMedia Lab-Laboratory for Social Machines (LSM), to support LSM’s mission to understand and design human networks through the creation of new digital technologies with applications in pro-social media and learning. Will undertake software development, data-management, and data-analysis projects. Responsibilities will include collaborating with research staff to set direction and scope projects; independently designing and developing methods and building core software systems; serving as lead for multi-member projects; mentoring researchers and junior engineers on industry best practices and production level software development methods; participating in and leading effective product-engineering development practices; directing and guiding workflows to ensure effective continuous deployment of research; and productionizing, maintaining, and troubleshooting software in support of projects.

Job Requirements

REQUIREDat least five years’ experience delivering production software systems in an industry setting; and experience with Python, JavaScript, and SQL.  Must demonstrated the ability to work with a project plan; execute with minimal oversight; and work in a fast-paced and uncertain environment, pivoting as research and social needs develop. 

PREFERRED a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related area; experience with React+Redux, cloud computing platforms, and working in a small startup environment; and familiarity with common machine-learning methods and/or data visualization techniques.  Job #18712
