LEARNING ACTIVITIES DESIGNER, Media Lab (ML)-Learning Initiative-Public Library Innovation Exchange (PLIX), to design and develop learning activities, experiences, and materials for the PLIX program and document and support current PLIX projects.  Will collaborate with ML researchers and public librarians to create learning resources that translate research into creative learning activities/kits/programs for public libraries and other educational spaces.  Responsibilities include codeveloping new and leading the design, maintenance, and facilitation of existing PLIX programs and materials; maintaining/expanding the PLIX project’s visual style and brand; organizing and leading user-testing and play-testing, synthesizing feedback, and iterating on the design of learning activities/kits/programs; documenting and sharing the development process of PLIX learning activities/kits/programs on public-facing website and blog; assisting with developing and facilitating workshops/events/training; collaborating on reviewing and refining overall strategy for the PLIX project and other programs; and performing other duties as assigned. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field; two years’ experience teaching and facilitating in a range of formal and informal learning environments/learning spaces; two years’ visual design experience producing infographics, illustrations, print materials, videos, etc.; experience working with the public, including librarians, patrons, educators, and youth; experience with the design process, including ideating, understanding and collecting user feedback, and rapid project prototyping and iteration; working knowledge of creative learning; excellent interpersonal and communication design skills (visual and digital); and high-level proficiency with visual design tools (i.e., Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Sketch).  Seek someone with a strong personal commitment to open and public learning, especially for underserved populations/communities.  

PREFERRED:  experience with front-end web development or mobile app technologies, and experience working in an academic setting and/or at the Media Lab.  Job #18547-6
