Job Summary

The Lab Manager will administer the operation of the Zernicka-Goetz lab and provide technical support to the students and postdocs in the lab at Caltech. More information about the Zernicka-Goetz lab can be found here: http://www.pdn.cam.ac.uk/zernickagoetzlab/

Job Duties

  • Ordering reagents
  • Train users on proper operation of instruments
  • Provide technical support to the students and postdocs in the lab
  • Take care of the maintained inventory of tools, materials, and supplies
  • Schedule and supervise preventive maintenance by Caltech staff
  • Maintain operation of instruments and equipment, and coordinate with vendors to install new equipment
  • Orient new laboratory members to location of instruments and associated supplies
  • Maintain lab safety, train students in safety procedures, and communicate with campus safety office; document and communicate laboratory and facility procedures
  • Participate in classes to learn about new equipment and new machining techniques, and educate the research group about such topics
  • General support of all research efforts in the lab
  • Participate in some lab experiments
  • Maintain and update the group website to represent the lab

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in stem cell or developmental or cell biology or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in a laboratory
  • Technical knowledge of small animal research
  • Familiarity and experience with molecular and cell biological techniques, and the operation of standard lab equipment required
  • Basic computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in stem cell or developmental or cell biology
