The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Division of Public Mental Health and Population Science, Center for Behavioral Health Services and Implementation Research (CBHSIR) is seeking a Social Science Research Professional. The candidate will serve as a team leader and along with the center director, oversee a research portfolio and team dedicated to the application of implementation science methods to improve the quality of health care delivery and public health. Research in this portfolio includes: 1) implementing behavioral health services in routine medical practice settings, such as primary care and emergency departments; 2) implementing medications for drug and alcohol use disorders in general and specialty practice settings and systems; and 3) serving as a Stanford and national resource center for dissemination and implementation research mentoring, consultation, collaboration and research materials and tools. Although the CBHSIR Program Manager (SSRP) will be involved with staff members and projects across the portfolio, a particular focus will be #1, implementing and evaluating sustainable integrated behavioral health services, including both mental health and addiction, in primary care practice settings and systems.

Duties include:

  • Assist in designing and executing implementation practice and research projects both locally, regionally and nationally
  • Applying rigorous research methods, including staying informed of cutting edge approaches newly developed in the implementation research field
  • Lead or participate in multidisciplinary teams (at Stanford, locally and nationally) that may consist of researchers, clinicians, private and public health systems leaders, patients and their family members.
  • Lead or co-author all or sections of manuscripts reporting project findings for publication or at national conference symposia.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant applications, including taking responsibility for first drafts of specific subsections.
  • Certain administrative, inter-departmental and budgetary responsibilities.
  • Formally onboard and supervise new staff and trainees, including hiring, performance management, and related duties, in addition to providing direction on tasks and timelines to goal achievement.
  • The successful candidate must enjoy writing, being part of a team, and a management role.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with behavioral and or public health program management
  • Knowledge of SPSS and or other statistical program

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate degree in an applicable social science related field and five years of applicable experience, or combination of education and experience in an applicable social science.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Expert level knowledge and skills in field of science related to research project.
  • General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with human study participants.
  • Supervisory skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork or parts.
  • Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, rarely reach/work above shoulders, operate foot and/or hand controls.
