Cranfield Defence and Security (CDS) provides unique educational opportunities to the defence and security sectors of both public and private sector organisations. Based at the UK Defence Academy at Shrivenham in Oxfordshire, CDS is the academic provider to the UK Ministry of Defence for all postgraduate education and training in engineering, science, acquisition, management and leadership. 

The post holder will be responsible for the synthesis and characterization of innovative cyclodextrin based cross-linked materials. The post holder will initially follow tried-and-tested methods for the synthesis and characterization however; development of new synthesis methods and/or new characterization tests will be encouraged. You will work closely with colleagues to make effective use of the facilities.

You will hold a PhD (or nearing completion) in Synthetic Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry. Experience in synthesis of chemicals either from industrial or academic exposure; operating process and laboratory equipment, vacuum pumps and heater/chiller units and applying analytical skills and techniques, such as nuclear magnetic resonance and differential scanning calorimetry is essential. 

You will understand the requirements of Health and Safety within a Chemistry laboratory environment and have knowledge of methods of chemical analysis and interpretation of data.
