Job Description

The Living Analytics Research Centre (LARC) is a research centre set up in Singapore Management University (SMU) with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) as our strategic partner that focuses Urban and Community Liveability, Personalised Urban Mobility, Jobs and Skills Intelligence, as well as Smart Consumption andHealthy Lifestyle. Candidates who join us can also expect to gain a deeper knowledge in the following areassuch as Big Data Analytics, Data Mining, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Human Computer Interaction, Urban Computing and other relevant disciplines.

The candidate will be working on key initiatives and projects with internal or external partners in the followingaspects:

  • Conduct research in the above areas
  • Gather requirements from project partners through discussions and correspondence
  • Develop, design and implement research prototypes and test-bed systems to achieve project requirements and targets, as well as to showcase the centre’s analytics capabilities
  • Showcase LARC’s projects at events or conferences
  • Assist other researchers to collect and extract relevant data for research purposes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor/Master Degree in Computer Science or relevant disciplines
  • Good knowledge of Databases, Data Mining, Distributed Computing, Operating Systems
  • Proficient in at least one or more of these programming languages: Java, Python, C#, C++, C
  • Experience in the following technologies will be beneficial:
    • Elasticsearch
    • Apache Storm
    • RabbitMQ
    • Redis
    • MySQL, Postgresql
    • Tomcat, NodeJS, Apache, Nginx and Xampp
    • Linux Environment (CentOS 6.x, Ubuntu 14.x), Bash Scripting
    • Virtualization (VMWare, KVM, Vagrant, Docker)
    • GPU Computing and Deep Learning
  • Self-motivated and able to carry out tasks independently
  • Excellent team player and possess strong inter-personal skill
