The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics are recruiting a Post-doctoral Research Associate to join a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, academics, senior technicians and postgraduate students, and work on an EPSRC funded pioneering scientific research on development of a novel remote and real-time composite process monitoring technique in a collaborative academic-industrial project. The project is funded by the EPSRC Future Composite Manufacturing and Future Metrology Hubs. The position is fixed-term however possible to extend subjected to further funding availability.

Responsibilities

The postholder will be involved in experimental investigation of polymer processing and polymer matrix composite processing; carrying out real-time measurement of the processed composite specimens, and material characterization post manufacturing. The researcher will be responsible for arrangement and preparation of project meetings, and the public dissemination of the outcomes.

They will work with the project’s collaborators including the Keysight Laboratory at City, Enhanced Composites & Structures Centre and Centre for Electronic Warfare Information & Cyber at Cranfield University.

Person Specification

The successful candidate should have a reasonable track record and relevant PhD degree (or near completion) in polymer composites, material science or process measurement/monitoring, or equivalent. They should preferably be experienced either in dielectric measurements of materials and processes or in composite manufacturing especially in vacuum bagging processes or both. Candidates with some background in 3D printing of polymers are also encouraged to apply for the position. Experience in making presentations for a large number of audiences, such as in prestigious international conferences, would be desirable.
