​Applications are invited for appointment as Temporary Clinical Assistant Professor in Restorative Dental Sciences (Cariology) (2 posts) of the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: 500491), to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

The HKU Faculty of Dentistry is the only dental school in Hong Kong and is the only one in Greater China that uses English as the medium of instruction. The Faculty offers both undergraduate and postgraduate dental education, which is internationally renowned.  The Faculty’s strategic research themes are Biomedical Engineering and Biofunctional Materials, Oral Microbiome and Health Initiative, Population Oral Health, and Smart Health Technology and Potentially Malignant Oral Disease.  The high quality of the Faculty’s teaching and learning, clinical services and research excellence have won global recognition, as evidenced by the Faculty’s World Number One Ranking by the QS World University Ranking by Subject in the years 2016, 2017 and 2018.  The Faculty also plays an important role in public and professional education through its knowledge exchange activities as well as in dental and oral health research, and promotions in international, regional and local communities.

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Dentistry, and a Master of Dental Surgery degree or equivalent in Restorative Dentistry or Community Dentistry.  They should also have (i) ability in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching and clinical practice; (ii) potential for and interest in research; (iii) ability and willingness to participate in Faculty affairs; and (iv) experience in knowledge exchange activities.  Applicants should have demonstrated a high level of expertise in research in Cariology, Community Dentistry or Dental Public Health.  Those with a Ph.D. degree or an equivalent qualification in Cariology, Community Dentistry or a closely related field would be highly desirable.  Experience in providing outreach dental service (especially to children) would be an advantage.

The appointees will perform teaching, research and knowledge exchange; provide outreach dental services for pre-school children; evaluate the impact and develop research related to dental service; and perform other duties as assigned.  Enquiries about the duties of the posts should be sent to Professor C.H.
