Chair Professor of Smart Manufacturing (Ref. 20070302)

The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) is one of the constituent departments of the Faculty of Engineering. ISE is dedicated to strive for international research excellence in areas of advanced manufacturing technology, engineering management and logistics, and smart systems and design.  ISE offers a full range of top-quality multi-disciplinary programmes to meet the needs and challenges of society. Smart Manufacturing is one of the key research areas of the Department.  Over the last few years, ISE has established a new Cyber-Physical Systems Laboratory and installed various new facilities including collaborative robotics, VR systems, and 3D printing systems to support teaching and research.  ISE is now inviting applications or nominations for the post of Chair Professor in this area to lead the research activities of the department. 

Job Functions

Reporting to the Head of Department, the Chair Professor is expected to provide leadership in academic activities, including research, teaching, and service in ISE. The appointee is expected to be a senior academic with a proven track record and international research reputation and be required to:

(a)    provide leadership in all aspects of academic activities, including research, teaching, and service in the Department;

(b)    provide leadership in promoting research collaboration, securing external research grants, and enhancing research quality and publication output;

(c)    engage in scholarly research/high-level consultancy;

(d)    supervise research students;

(e)    teach and contribute to curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and

(f)    contribute to academic administration and management in the University.

Qualifications 

Applicants should have:

(a)    a doctoral degree in a  related field;

(b)    an international reputation in research and scholarship;

(c)    a strong record in attracting research funding and excellence in research outputs;

(d)    a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning; and

(e)    proven qualities of academic leadership.
