About the role:

An exciting opportunity for a 1-year fixed-term position for an Infection Control nurse to join the Microbiological Diagnostic Unit public health laboratory, the Peter Doherty Institute in COVID-19 related projects supporting Victoria’s COVID-19 response and working with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in supporting regional COVID-19 support.

About you:

  • Suitably qualified Division 1 Registered Nurse and extensive relevant experience    
  • An extensive understanding of the principles and practice of infection prevention and control including all aspects of reprocessing (cleaning, disinfection and sterilization)

Skills and experience required to fulfill the position:

  • Practical experience as an infection control consultant
  • Experience in surveillance, epidemiology and critical appraisal
  • Ability to deal with a range of complex and sensitive issues and to work in a range of complex environments    
  • High-level interpersonal, consultative and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member, manage priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to relate effectively with a range of people across all levels of the organisation
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team to develop and conduct training workshops and activities, preparation of documentation and contribute to reporting
