As part of the Nuclear Innovation Programme funded by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), a consortium led by Jacobs and including the University of Bristol and EDF Energy R&D UK Centre is delivering the development of a Nuclear Virtual Engineering Capability (NVEC).
EDF Energy R&D UK Centre will contribute to the NVEC by developing its Graphite Workbench. This includes building a modelling and simulation environment to study and predict crack distributions for Advanced Gas‐cooled Reactor (AGR) bricks under ageing conditions and study the behaviour of the whole core models. Seismic analysis will be conducted with the aim of comparing data resulting from different software and experimental setups.
The University of Bristol will contribute by providing shaking table test data from a unique earthquake engineering research project that has provided vital evidence to underpin the seismic safety assessment of EDF Energy's ageing AGR nuclear power stations. Information from the experimental programme provides essential validation of the numerical models that are used to underpin the AGR seismic safety case arguments for life extension of the oldest AGR stations.
We now require a post-doctoral researcher to contribute to the NVEC work. The role will involve post-processing shaking table experimental test data and developing tools to allow for models and experiments to be compared using the proposed unified format.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Engineering, Physical Sciences or Science or equivalent industrial experience. Experience of data collection and organisation, manipulating large data sets and data processing with Matlab are all essential to the role, as is the ability to diagnose and rectify complex problems and communicate complex information to non-specialists.
The post(s) is being offered on a part-time, fixed term contract up to 31/012/2020. Candidates must be able to start work in early July and be willing to work remotely.
