The Humanities Collegiate Division and the Department of Art History at the University of Chicago are accepting applications for a part-time, benefits-eligible Lecturer in Architecture and Urban Design for a one-year, renewable term starting 1 September 2020.
A Master’s Degree or equivalent in Architecture, Urban Design, or a related field is required. Two years of experience teaching design studio classes within a college or university liberal arts curriculum is highly desirable, as is familiarity with Chicago and its architectural assets and milieu as teaching resources.
The teaching load will include three introductory design classes over three quarters of the academic year focused respectively on skill acquisition, a particular city, and a building type. Additional duties, equivalent to one additional course, may include advising students studying the built environment as well as Architectural Studies minors; in-class design critiques as directed; BA thesis advising as directed; support of design studio classes including assisting with materials ordering and orientation of design studio instructors; coordinating with other university entities engaging the built environment for purposes of program development; and organizing one annual open house for students interested in urban architecture and design.
