At TU Dresden, Faculty of Psychology the Cluster of Exellence “Centre for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop” (CeTI) is inviting applications for the following position in the Research Group “Human Perception and Action”

Research Associate / PhD Student

in the field: Neurocognitive mechanisms of human perception and action

(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated

according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting on 01.10.2020. The position entails 75 % of the full-time weekly hours and is fixed-term for 3 years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e. g. PhD).

The successful applicant will work together with Dr. Jakub Limanowski (Research Group Leader) within the DFG-funded Cluster of Excellence “Centre for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-loop” (https://www.ceti.one). The position will be based in the CeTI and will be associated with the Faculty of Psychology.

Tasks: The “Human Perception and Action” Research Group’s focus is on the cognitive-computational basis of human perception and action, with an emphasis on the mechanisms of how body models are constructed and updated (e. g., in virtual environments) by the brain. We use virtual reality together with state-of-the-art sensors (e. g., data gloves) and interventions (TMS, pharmacology) for experimental manipulation, and look at how these manipulations affect behaviour, brain activity (e. g., fMRI and EEG), and subjective experience together. We use computational modelling to gain a mechanistic understanding of these data. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the group’s ongoing research projects, with a focus on neurocognitive aspects as assessed via brain or behavioral responses to experimental manipulations.

Requirements: university degree (Diploma, Master) in Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or a related relevant field; written and oral proficiency in English. We particularly encourage applications of students with experience in the analysis of behavioural / brain data and / or virtual reality design, and with programming skills (e. g. Python, Matlab).

The Faculty of Psychology supports multidisciplinary research with ample opportunities for training and collaboration. CeTI’s Human-in-the-Loop lab has motion capture, eyetracking, as well as mobile EEG and NIRS systems. The Chair of Lifespan Developmental Neuroscience has EEG and NIRS systems, behavioral testing rooms, and direct current stimulation (tDCS) systems; there is furthermore access to a research-dedicated 3T MRI scanner and TMS system through the university’s Neuroimaging Centre.

Applications from women are particularly welcome. The same applies to people with disabilities.

Please submit your complete application (including a CV detailing scientific experience to date, a short summary of the master thesis [max. 1 page], a statement of motivation and research interest [max. 1 page], and the contact details of 2 referees) with the subject header: PhD Neurocognitive mechanisms HPA preferably via the TU Dresden SecureMail Portal https://securemail.tu-dresden.de by sending it as a single PDF document to jakub.limanowski@tu-dresden.de or to TU Dresden, Fakultät Psychologie, Institut für Pädagogische Psychologie und Entwicklungspsychologie, Professur für Entwicklungspsychologie und Neurowissenschaft der Lebensspanne, z.
