As an integral part of the Centre for Disruptive Photonic Technologies (CDPT) research plan, the Senior Research Fellow is expected to lead the experimental research agenda on the exploration of various nanophotonics strategies to improve detection efficiency and tune the Superconducting Nanowire Single Photon Detectors (SNSPD) spectral responsivity.

Job Responsibilities

  • Generate a substantial body of novel experimental, theoretical and numerical work in nanophotonics strategies for the improvement of SNSPD, as defined by CDTP research programme. This may also require working with visiting researchers, students and travelling internationally to conduct collaborative work.
  • Contribute running and maintaining the Infrared Nanophotonics laboratory at CDPT
  • Manage the interactions with local (NUS) and international collaborators of the project
  • Participate in joint research with other CDTP partners and cooperating parties and to support CDPT projects requiring fabrication, assembling and testing of the devices
  • Contribute into preparation of progress reports, as well as attendance at regular project meetings (and participation in organizing such meetings) and research conferences
  • Contribute to the organisation and day-to-day smooth running of the CDTP, to assist in the supervision of PhD students
  • Prepare publications for leading scientific journals and at international conferences
  • Support the development of future grant proposals, and the development and protection of intellectual property

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Physics, Optical Engineering, Material Science, or closely-related disciplines
  • 5 or more years of relevant research experience in nanophotonics and superconductivity
  • Solid knowledge and in depth understanding of superconductivity, optics, nano-optics, nanophotonics, electromagnetic waves propagation, confinement and enhancement of optical fields through novel approaches such as metamaterials, plasmonics and dielectric nanocavities etc
  • Experience with microscopy optical characterization of superconducting materials and use of liquid helium temperature cryostats
  • Experience with spectroscopic characterization setups and systems and experimental data analysis: experience with nanoscopic fabrication, building optical and electronic characterization setups, knowledge of the use of tools and methods such as e.g. FIB/EBL, optical lithography is required
  • Experience with analytical and numerical tools and methods, such as full wave electromagnetic wave propagation simulations, for the description of optics phenomena at the nanoscale
  • Solid knowledge of superconducting films deposition techniques, materials and tools;
  • Excellent track record of scientific publications in international peer reviewed journals
