Description

The Department of Computer Science in the Physical Sciences Division at the University of Chicago invites applications for teaching positions at the rank of Instructional Professor. This is a five-year position with the possibility of renewal. The responsibilities of this position are teaching two courses per quarter in the fall, winter and spring quarters, and ongoing professional development. The relationship between Instructional Professors and the University is governed by a Service Employees International Union Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The University of Chicago is in the midst of an ambitious, multi-year effort to significantly expand its computing and data science activities including a newly-opened, state-of-the-art home for the Department of Computer Science.  

Qualifications

An advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field is required (a Ph.D. is preferred). Candidates must have been the instructor of record in at least 3000 units of undergraduate and/or graduate course offerings in Computer Science or a related field over the span of at least ten calendar years. 3000 units is typically equivalent to 30 quarter-long course offerings, or 20 semester-long course offerings. Candidates who are qualified to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the following areas are preferred: introduction to programming, data science, machine learning, systems, or theory.
