Department of Visual Studies

The Department of Visual Studies (VS) at Lingnan University offers a multi-disciplinary course of study, focusing on art history and film art. The VS curriculum emphasises the history, theory and philosophy of visual arts and culture in Asia and beyond, together with experiential, object- and skill-based learning through fieldtrips, studio practice, curatorial training and internships. VS admits undergraduate, MPhil and PhD students per academic year.  A new taught Master’s programme in Curating and Art History (MACAH) will be launched in 2020/21. VS is looking for part-time lecturers to teach one or more course(s) on Art History and/or Museum Studies, such as theories of art, provenance research, contemporary art, connoisseurship of Chinese painting and calligraphy, collection management and digital museum, in the MACAH programme. The appointee may also be invited to supervise research dissertations or curatorial projects.

General Requirements

Applicants for the position should have:

  1. a master’s or PhD degree in Art History, Museum Studies or a relevant discipline;
  2. relevant teaching and curatorial experience; and
  3. good command of English language.

Candidates should specify their teaching contribution to the MACAH programme and provide information about their track records, including evidence of high-quality teaching in relevant subjects, research output and curatorial projects.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointments will be made on a fixed-term basis.
