The School offers a diverse and stimulating range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in education, humanities and social policy. Working collaboratively with external partners, schools and organisations we ensure that our programmes are discipline specific, innovative and professionally relevant.

The Cardiff School of Education and Social Policy (CSESP) offers three accredited ITE programmes, PGCE Primary (3-11), PGCE Secondary (11-18) and BA (Hons) Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) programmes. These are accredited by the Education Workforce for Wales (EWC). Applications are invited for a Lecturer in Teacher Education within the Cardiff Partnership in CSESP. Applicants should be experienced within the field of primary and/or secondary education and have QTS. As a member of the CSESP team you will be accountable for teaching, curriculum development, research and professional learning within your field of expertise. You will use innovative and inclusive learning strategies which serve to motivate and support students to achieve outstanding academic and professional outcomes.

The major commitment will be to teach and assess on the PGCE Primary (3-11) and the BA (Hons) Primary Education and to work with schools to empower student teachers to realise their potential.  Although there will be a particular focus on the primary phase, the successful candidate must also demonstrate the ability and willingness to teach across phase on the PGCE Secondary (11-18) programme as well as non QTS programmes within the School.

Essential Criteria

A good honours degree/ or equivalent professional qualification.

Qualified Teacher Status.

Master's qualification or an ability to complete within two years.

Ability to achieve Fellow Status as part of the Higher Education Academy’s Professional Recognition scheme, within agreed timescales (as soon as is practicably possible and definitely within three years of commencement of employment).

Membership of a professional body.

Lecturer

A good level of knowledge relevant to the subject and professional area.

A sound understanding of pedagogy.

A sound understanding of research/innovation and scholarly activity.

Ability to develop teaching and/or research programmes and the provision of learning support.

Ability to design teaching and learning material.

Ability to employ appropriate assessment methods.

Ability to identify areas for improvement and to use initiative and problem solving skills to improve performance.

Ability to communicate and disseminate complex and conceptual ideas in a variety of ways – presentations at conferences, reports on findings, publications, feedback etc.

Ability to communicate using everyday Welsh at a level consistent with primary curriculum requirements.

Significant experience of teaching in the primary school sector /research or equivalent.

Experience of HE teaching or equivalent.

Experience of providing academic leadership and first line support/mentoring for other colleagues.
