Lead an innovative Cybersecurity research program that underpins extensive collaborations.
An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated at Level E including 17% Superannuation.

To enhance our research excellence, the University of Adelaide is investing in new elite academic talent and a new role of Chair of Cybersecurity has been created in partnership with DST Group to provide academic and research leadership in the field.
The present role, to be held in the School of Computer Science, comes at a crucial and very exciting time, with Cybersecurity having been prioritised as a research area by both Federal and South Australian State Governments. A number of public and private sector entities, including DST, are coalescing around a new technology precinct adjacent to the University of Adelaide in the city centre. Activity in this precinct has been prioritised in areas of Defence, Space, Machine Learning and Cyber-security, with the research intimately intertwined and in many cases with industry embedded with academia. The present role is a unique opportunity to help shape and provide leadership within this once-in-a-generation initiative.
Your outstanding research will advance the University’s national and international leadership in the area of Cybersecurity. Your commitment and engagement will promote robust interdisciplinary initiatives and collaborations across the University as well as with our external partners, to enable excellence in teaching along with research outputs that have national and international impact.
As a leader in your field, you will encourage and lead an environment of creativity and innovation in the School, building capacity in Cybersecurity research and expertise, and engaging with the broader academic, professional and industry community to promote and enhance the national and international profile of the University.
To be successful you will need:
- Evidence of a continuing high-level personal commitment to, and outstanding achievement in the research area of, Cybersecurity.
- Experience in consistently securing successful research funding from national competitive and other agencies.
- Proven involvement and skills in the management of large-scale research projects and their finances.
- Potential to foster the research of other groups and individuals within an organisational unit and more broadly.
- A track record of having worked in multidisciplinary environments involving research scientists and educationalists.
- A PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics or Engineering (or related discipline) with extensive experience and track record in the field of Cybersecurity.
Level E applications will have demonstrated ability across the minimum essential criteria and much greater levels of experience and achievement across the above-listed points.

Your School’s broader role
The School of Computer Science is one of eight Schools that comprise the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences. The School delivers undergraduate degrees in Computer Science and Software Engineering, as well as new Master courses in Data Science, Cybersecurity and Machine Learning. The School is also closely associated with the Australian Institute of Machine Learning, Australia’s largest machine learning group.
The School and wider Faculty are rapidly building capacity in Cybersecurity research. World-class expertise in side-channel attacks, pre- and post-quantum cryptography, secure software, privacy, and networks has led to a #1 ranking in Australia for Computer Security (csrankings.org) for the School of Computer Science.
