Description

The University of Chicago’s Division of Biological Sciences and Pritzker School of Medicine, one of the country’s preeminent medical schools, seeks nominations and applications for an outstanding academic, visionary leader to direct the Comprehensive Cancer Center. The appointee will hold the rank of full professor and serve as Dean for Cancer Programs and the Principal Investigator of the NCI core grant, and will continue the strong tradition of research excellence of the Center while expanding basic, population, clinical, and translational research in collaboration with departmental leadership and our affiliates. The Cancer Center Director will be the most senior faculty member responsible for integrating our missions of research, education and patient care as they relate to cancer. Also, the appointee will firmly establish UCCCC as the premier cancer program in the greater Chicago area and beyond, play an active leadership role in the new oncology service line, and leads efforts to develop the priorities for the cancer-related Capital Campaign and coordinate cancer fundraising initiatives.

The Director will be a nationally recognized physician-scientist or scientist with a strong track record of NCI funded research and deep knowledge of important directions in discovery and innovation in research and clinical care in oncology. They will have demonstrated an ability to recruit, lead, and to grow programs in a complex academic environment, ensuring that the academic and clinical activities of the Cancer Center continue to bring value to its many internal and external stakeholders and distinction to UCCCC nationally. They will inherit a Cancer Center rich in science and eager to expand the depth and scope of its programs. The appointee will be expected to have direct knowledge of and experience in the administration of an NCI designated Cancer Center.

Our search will assess applicants’ national recognition as demonstrated by involvement in academic societies at a national level and track record of extramural peer reviewed funding, and administrative experience with NCI designated Cancer Centers.
